Roy Humphrey Cave Penney (1906 - 1940)
This image was included in a collection of images of the Cave Penney family. The family lived and farmed at Rogues Roost, and lived at Little Roost, Sherwell (Sherril), Poundsgate, from about 1907 to 1984. This shows Humphrey prior to joining the RAF in 1923. Because of ill-health, he relinquished his commission in 1933 but was killed in 1940 when a fighter bomber dropped 16 bombs on the Cunliffe Owen aircraft factory where he was working at Eastleigh, Southampton. He is buried at St John The Baptist Church at Leusdon, where his sisters, Joan and Veronica, are also buried.
