Reeves Fire 1989
Fire at Reeves - 1989 Children playing with matches were thought to start the fire gutting a disused warehouse belonging to Graham Reeves Ltd on the Quay. Four fire appliances from Totnes and Paignton attended. 26 men using breathing apparatus and a turn table had the fire under control under the hour and firemen remained at the site until the following day. The timber warehouse was empty except for a sawdust hopper containing 4-5 tons of sawdust which had the potential to cause an explosion. The site was currently being negotiated for sale and Reeves planned to pull the warehouse down in the next few days.
