At site of former Vale Cottages, 2025
This part-finished building, being built during 2024-25 and intended as live-work accommodation, was photographed on 11 November 2025 (Remembrance Day). It occupies the site of the former Vale Cottages, Totnes (see PRR 0035 and PRR 0062). To the west of it is a pair of 19th century warehouses, listed as Grade II by English Heritage (later known as Historic England). See, for example, images BHW 2305, BHW 3601 and others. The huge opening, awaiting a window, echoes the warehouses. Their openings can be seen in image JBN 0012. One of the scaffolders removing the scaffolding of this building in autumn 2025 observed of its quality and appearance: 'It would be as if it grew there.' Much of the stonework covering the breeze-blocks was re-used from earlier buildings there. The previous state of the site can be seen in image LE 0306, just beyond the red wall in that image.
