Pole rack at the Graving Dock, Stover Canal

This has been referred to as a ‘pole rack’, because this is what it looks like, although no-one is quite sure what it was used for. A rack for poles seems the most likely explanation, as it is adjacent to the Graving Dock where barges were dry-docked. It seems likely that poles were used to position the barges when they needed to be out of the water. Photograph taken in 2016.
