Ventiford Basin, Stover Canal, 2021
Ventiford Basin marked the northern terminus of the Stover canal. Local clay was brought overland, loaded onto barges and sailed down the canal to the Jetty Marsh sea lock. In 1820, George Templer brought his granite tramway to this point from the quarries he owned at Haytor. The Dartmoor granite then followed the same route to Teignmouth as the clay. Images MR 0001, MR 0002 and MR 0003 show the granite tramway on Dartmoor. This shows Ventiford Basin in November 2021.
