This is part of a series of photographs depicting the Totnes Heritage Festival on Saturday 28 September 2024, when people were encouraged to and did visit historic Totnes buildings including the Totnes Image Bank at the Town Mill, the Museum, the Guildhall and Totnes Castle, and films were screened at the Totnes Cinema. The 16th Century Guildhall was also open to visitors. It was of course the scene of many civic occasions, and also served as the local Magistrates' Court until a new Court was built in 1976. This is the Council Chamber, which was also used as Court 1. Users of Court 2 [upstairs] needed to mount the stairs quietly to avoid disturbing the proceedings in Court 1.
