Timber sawyers, Ashburton
Seaward Brothers, timber sawyers and threshing contractors, working in the field opposite the old lumber works in Ballard Lane, Ashburton (later a stone quarry). The saw bench has rollers on top which are propelled by steam engine. Left to right: ? operator from Buckland, Bill Beavis (played in old Volunteer Band from 1908 as Ashburton Band; broke up 1939 due to war), ? , Alec Seaward, Ned Lee (once worked in Owlacombe Mine at Sigford and experienced an explosion which turned his hair white), Harry Hamlyn who farmed Pittley Farm.
