Holbeam Mill

Trip hammers inside Holbeam Mill, Ogwell. Owned by Stockman, then taken by Loder.. Originally a corn mill, then became an edge tool mill. Making Scythes. Knives copied by a Sheffield firm and stamped "genuine Loder". Loder sued and got £100 damages. Holbeam Mill was renowned for making high quality knives and hooks for the fishing trade in Newfoundland. The Mill was enlarged when bought by another family in 1815, developing into a factory to build other tools as the Newfoundland trade began to dwindle. DRA 3714 OG 030
