Holbeam Mill

Water wheel at Holbeam Mill near Chercombe, Ogwell. Was an edge tool mill, formerly a corn mill, now a private house. Equipment in a museum in London. Holbeam Mill was renowned for making high quality knives and hooks for the fishing trade in Newfoundland. The Mill was enlarged when bought by another family in 1815, developing into a factory to build other tools as the Newfoundland trade began to dwindle. DRA 3717 OG 029
