Daniel R.Scratton JP, c1880. Bought Ogwell and Denbury Estates in 1885. Made extensive alterations to West Ogwell House where he lived and supplied the house and the village with mains water. Great benefactor. A ward in Newton Abbot Hospital is named after him.  He died in 1902. DRA 0077 DB 065
