Blacksmith's shop and Anchor Inn, Ugborough, pre-1914

The Anchor Inn and the blacksmith's shop opposite it, shown here at Ugborough pre-1914, were included in the sale of the property of the Carew family in 1919. (The pages of the catalogue of the sale are shown elsewhere in this archive.) The Anchor Inn was advertised as Lot 18 (image SAV 0039) and the blackmith's as Lot 27 (images SAV 0040 and SAV 0044). Lot 27 was described as 'in the occupation of Mr G F Trout as a half-yearly Ladyday Tenant, at an apportioned rent of £4 12s 6d. This is the only Smithy in the Village and for some distance around, and should always command a good rent.' The man shown in this image could be George Trout. The blacksmith's (on the other side of the road') was to be included in the sale of the Anchor Inn. (See also UG 035.) DRA 6415 UG 027
