Harvesting c1926

Harvesting at Ogwell c1926. The 'sweep' is underneath the pile of hay left, then pulled back from horse, tipped forward, leaving hay in piles to be thrown into elevator by hand. A horse worked the elevator, which could be raised or lowered like a crane and used to transfer hay to the stack. Several people in the photograph are from Denbury - they had gone to help a neighbour as was the custom of the time. L Jack Payne, R front Douglas Soper, in front of ladder Jim Pinney. DRA 0622 DB 026
