Carew sisters at Marley House, c.1910

To the right of the doorway are Elizabeth (Bessie) Carew (with the camera) and her younger sister, Beatrix. Possibly a guest is shown departing from Marley House, with a suitcase attached to the back of a car. A housekeeper, possibly, stands in the doorway with an unidentified person. In the 1911 Census, the sisters are recorded at Marley House, on their own, except for 16 servants; the list of staff is so long that the census uses two census pages for the household. The staff included two footmen, a coachman/chauffeur, and a groom, as well as a variety of female staff, including a 'hospital nurse'. The photograph is dated c.1910/11. In the 1911 Census, Elizabeth is recorded as 71 and her sister as 68. Neither married. DRA 5740 R 105
