Margaret Jervoise-Smith hunting, 1907

The Dartmoor Hunt sets off from Marley House, 24 April 1907. An article titled ‘West Country Sportswomen’ in ‘The Gentlewoman’, 23 January 1909, reported that ‘Mr. Gay has been successful in getting good portraits of three favourite hunters. Mrs. Jervoise-Smith is on “Andy London,” a bay mare 15.2½, which she bought in 1907 from a farmer who nothing whatever about the mare except that she came from some place near London – hence the somewhat quaint name.’ Margaret Jervoise-Smith is shown on the left in this photograph, possibly riding Andy London at this date (1907). *** W.R.GAYS SERIES *** DRA 5721 R 098
