Dorothy, Mary Irene and Alice Smerdon, c.1910

Dorothy, Mary Irene (Rene) and Alice Smerdon, aged about 7, 11 and 9, are shown in the archway looking out of the courtyard at Dartington. Since Rene was born in 1899, the photograph can be dated to around 1910, when John Sidney Smerdon, their father, was still a tenant farmer at Barton Farm on the estate, then owned by the Champernownes.
