Fishermen at Beesands, c1926

The image is from a postcard posted in 1926. It shows fishermen at Beesands, leaning against boats, with some appearing to be inspecting the catch of fish on the shingle. Wicker baskets and crab pots can also be seen. The image is reminiscent of the oil painting, 'A fish sale on a Cornish beach', by the Newlyn School artist Stanhope Forbes, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1885. It is now at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. DRA 5529 SK 036
