Otter hounds, c.1938

Otter hounds from Dartmoor pack are shown in the River Dart, c 1938. The huntsman is Raymond R. Foale, born in Ashburton on 26 April 1909; his father George was a South Devon kennelman. In the 1939 Register England & Wales, Raymond is recorded as 'kennel huntsman', living at 2 Limeberry Terrace, South Brent. Hunting ceased at the beginning of WW2 and was banned from 1978. It had previously been encouraged to protect fishing. DRA 5292 B 163
