Monks at Abbey pre WW1

Monks at Buckfast Abbey dressing stone, pre WW1. Left - french laybrother, Bros Ignatius Birk (a prrincipal builder) Anthony Fisher, Fridolin Rolf. At outbreak of war most of the monks were German and confined to the Abbey ground for the duration. Friends and neighbours conducted outside business. DRA 5257 B 152
