Shown here are Violet Ash (later Mrs Lewis) with the flasket (shallow basket), her mother Jane Ash, and Mrs Bessie Coram with their washing in front of New Buildings, c.1930. Bessie Coram (born 1875) is recorded as living at 2 New Buildings, Buckfastleigh, with her husband William J. Coram, a woollen mill labourer, and her daughter Winnie Coram in the 1939 Register England & Wales. Violet Ash was born in 1900 and, with her parents, Lydia Jane and William George Ash, lived at 10 New Buildings. The washing lines were to the side of the allotments, now Buckfast Nursery adjacent to the public footpath known as Pathfields. S/be DRA 5242 B140. DRA 5242 B 014
