Oldstone Mansion before the 1895 fire

This watercolour, possibly by Laura Dimes, shows Oldstone Mansion, Blackawton, before fire that destroyed it on the night of Saturday 16 February 1895. On 22 February, the Dartmouth and South Hams Chronicle published an account of events, as well as a letter of thanks from the owner, W S Dimes, to those who tried to help. Features of the house shown here, such as the Neo-classical doorway, can also be seen in images of the later ruins. *** DRA 52176 BA 023
