Hermitage, Oldstone Farm, Blackawton

The entrance to the hermitage or hermit's cave, now on the boundary of Oldstone Farm and Woodland Leisure Park, was Grade II listed by English Heritage in 1991. The listing describes it as 'Hermitage and detached plaque. Probably later C18. Slate rubble. Small single cell structure built into a field back on the edge of Quarryhead wood.' The inscribed plaque (not shown in the image), which includes a verse about the hermit, was moved to the field's boundary wall to the south east. *** DRA 5212 BA 029
