Elsie (Bessie) Turner, c. 1916

This photograph was initially captioned 'Bessie Turner nee Irish of Cordonford'. However, it appears to be Elsie Turner (born Irish) who married Edwin Turner in 1916. 'Bessie' may have been a nickname but she is recorded as Elsie in the 1921 Census when she has married Edwin Turner and was living at Corndonford Farm with him and his elder unmarried brother Richard. She is also recorded as Elsie in the 1939 Register England & Wales, when she is still living at Corndonford and, earlier, in 1901 when she is living with her parents and widowed grandfather at Grendon. She was born on 2 December 1891 to Thomas Robert Irish and Elizabeth Hamlyn (born White). This photograph may have been taken around the time of her marriage to Edwin Turner, i.e. 1916, when she was 25. DRA 4915 PW 084
