Three Crowns Hotel, Chagford. Churchyard right. Inn was C16 house where Royalist Sidney Godolphin was said to have been killed with a mortal shot from a musket just above the knee during Civil War skirmish at Chagford, February 1643. ....'leaving the misfortune of his death upon a place which could never otherwise have had a mention in the world'.
