Dr. Alfred Puddicombe, c.1860

Dr. Alfred Puddicombe, born about 1828, of Moretonhampstead, shown here around1860, was the son of Dr Alfred Puddicombe Snr. He left Moretonhampstead for Wolverhampton. His sister Fanny married Mr Hayes, a Wolverhampton architect. His nephew, W.Hayes, of Long Wittenham, Abington, presented these photo's (1934) and, in November 1933, purchased his grandfather's and uncle's old house: formerly called Hillesley, then Wintercroft and called The Rectory in 1934 when he let it to the present rector after the Diocesan Board had refused to sanction its purchase as a rectory. The Puddicombes lived at Greenhill House in the C18 & were descendants of the family of Puddicombe House, Drewsteignton (Puys de combe). Original 4 x 6 mounted on card.
