The Shambles

The Shambles, market house in centre of Moretonhampstead - in 1799 the firebell was in it - was pulled down in 1890 and firebell is now in Doccombe Chapel. Butchers sold meat here. Slaughter house was nearby in one of the courtyards also soapmaker with his boiling tubs and tanning too. DRA 3555 MHS 040
