Fore Street

Library and Fore Street (Greenhill), Moretonhampstead - garage, signpost and dairy all gone. Dairy was run by Mrs Prowse, garage disappeared about 1940. The Bowring Library was built in 1901 by Sir Thomas Bowring who had been to the USA where most towns had a free library. Library rules mention that 'mechanics apprentices and tradesmen would be much better employed in the reading rooms than in the public houses.' DRA 3552 MHS 037
