At mouth of Torbryan Caves c1919. L2R Mr Spiller, ?, Mrs Steele Hutchison, Hetty Spiller, ?, Trixie Spiller, ?, General Kelly of Tornewton House at 7'2" the tallest officer in the British Army. Name: Ann Manning E-mail: tudorann@hotmail.co.uk Comments: The two girls in the crowd standing outside Torbryan Caves c1919 are the tallest, my Aunty Hetty (not Betty) & the other, my mother, Beatrice Mary Spiller ( Trixie) with my grandad Charles James Spiller standing at the left of the picture with moustache & glasses. My mother died this year at the age of 96 & so has died the story of why this crowd had assembled outside the caves. I was born in my grandfather's cottage in Torbryan, then named "The Tors" in 1936 which more recently had been purchased by Robin Knox Johnson, he lives there no more. My mother married Ernie Medland whose parents owned Ipplepen Bakery & also had a dance band which was well known in all the local villages especially during the war when "The Yanks" liked to go to the village dances.
