Smeatons Eddystone Lighthouse c1882

Smeatons Eddystone Lighthouse (1755-1878) being dismantled, left, because rock was being undermined by sea. New lighthouse by Sir J.M.Douglass replaces it, right. This was constructed over four years and first lit in 1882. 133 feet above high water mark, weighs 4,668 tons. Old one erected on Plymouth Hoe. c1882 DRA 3194 PLY 048
