Staple Tor

Bankers at Staple Tor, Dartmoor. These are stone benches, just above Merrivale Quarry, where workmen cracked stone blocks to make cobbles for city streets. It was double cleavage granite and they were paid a penny a block for cracking. A good worker could do 60 a day, but the normal weekly wage was 7s 6d. DRA 3051 WM 036
