Warfleet Creek and Paradise Fort, 1850

An old print of Warfleet Creek, Dartmouth, 1850. Ships called to unload coal and limestone to the lime kilns. Farmers queued to get lime from the kilns, often staying overnight rather than lose their place in the queue. Also shown in the print is the old fort, Paradise Fort, on the site of the present Ravensbury (also known as Paradise Point). The fort was garrisoned by the Royalists in the Civil War and demolished in 1855. See also DRA 2062. *** DRA 2891 DMTH 057
