S/be 2876 EP 029. East Portlemouth School group 1909. School opened Jan 1878 with 33 children. Built by public subscription for £320 to accomodate 63. Highest attendances due to evacuees during war (70) so village hall was also used. Dropped to 12 after war, rose to 30 but Educ Act sent older children to Kingsbridge. Dropped again to 15 and was closed in 1962. Frequently teachers who lived in Salcombe were not able to cross over in ferry due to high tides and gales. DRA 2876 EP -
