POSTCARD, c1904. Ringrone house, Salcombe, left, built by Lord Kingsale 1839. Later converted* to Marine Hotel by local consortium. First rowing ferry went from Bakers Cottages next hotel to Ivy Cottage at East P. *The conversion (along with about 15 other premises dotted around the country) took place during the Cold War (climaxing in 1962) at the instigation of Government services to enable key Government figures a safe retreat from the capital city.
