Ada Atwill, 1907
Ada Atwill of Broadhempston (later Mrs Harris), age 18 in 1907, on taking up a teaching post in Surrey. In the 1911 Census, she is recorded as a boarder in the household of the widowed Anne Clench at Lyne, Chertsey, Surrey, with her occupation given as 'Assistant teacher'. By the 1921 Census, she is back at Houndhead, Broadhempston, and recorded as the head of the household, with her sister Lydia Mary and her brother Percy Thomas. She is recorded as a 'School teacher' for Devon Education Authority and her age is given, at that time, as 32 years and five months. She married in the final quarter of that year. DRA 0181 BHM 029
