Church House 1928

Abbotskerswell. Dedication of public rooms 1928. Photographed outside the Church House, opposite the Baths. Villagers could pay 6d and have a bath. Now converted into public lavatories, but may become council committee rooms. Rev.Walters, Rector of Highweek, Bishop of Exeter, Lt Robert Cecil, Mr A Dence & Miss Joan Dence (lived at Court Grange and gave baths to parish) Rural District Councillor Mr Rogers, members of Parish Council including George Wilton,holding keys (centre). Built in 1524. and served as village hall for over four centuries. Parish rooms were renovated as the parish baths and given to the village by the Hare family. DRA 1290 ABK 001
