The Smithy c1914

POSTCARD 10272, c1914. The Smithy, Clampitt Lane, Ipplepen. Edmund and James Maddicott, blacksmiths, lived in the adjoining Rose and Ivy Cottages. Smithy disappeared many years ago, but cottages still stand. Part of Clampitt cottages in background. One time comprised 6 small dwellings and were known as 'Rogues Roost'. Today they form 2 houses.  Wall & hedge demolished and bungalows to left. There were three blacksmiths in Ipplepen at beginning of century. Winifrid Stephens (Mrs Loosemore, died May 2005 age 103) is the little girl in front.
