Hallsands 1961

Hallsands and Trouts Hotel, 1961 Made homeless by the storm in 1917 was Eliza Ann Trout and four daughters Ella, Clara and Edith who moved to Bickerton. In 1917, when checking her crab pots, Ella & a cousin saw a cargo ship torpoedoed by a submarine and rowed out managing to rescue a crewman for which she was awarded the O.B.E. The family of the crewman gave her a small gift of money which enabled the Trouts to begin a new life. The built Prospect House as a guest house and extended it. By 1933 it was known as Trout's Hotel and catered for 70 guests.
