'Augusta Pridham'
This is one of nine images from a photograph album that was handed in to the Oxfam shop in Totnes. An article in the Totnes Times (date unknown) tried unsuccessfully to trace the identities of those shown. However, very brief information on a few of them, together with research online, has enabled us to identify most of them and provided strong clues to the others. The change of name from ‘Prideaux’ (image VAR06 0090) to ‘Pridham’ arose when Susanna Rachel Prideaux married Charles Pridham. The three key images in the identification process were VAR06 0090, VAR06 0091 and VAR06 0096. Susan Augusta Pridham was the second child of Charles Pridham (‘Grandfather Pridham’). She was born in Plymouth in 1844 and died on 2 October 1916 at 4 Avondale Road, Croydon, where she had been living with two unmarried sisters. The mount is labelled ‘aunt to DCB’. This was Dorothea Caroline Pridham, the daughter of Arthur Edward Pridham (one of the brothers of Ernest Pridham shown in image VAR06 0097). Dorothea married Charles Eardley Wilmot Binney in 1907 and died on 20 November 1963. The photograph must have been labelled ‘aunt to DCB’ after her marriage in 1907.
