Tuckenhay water, 1957

1957: the days of communal taps are numbered at Tuckenhay. South Devon Water Board was linking the mains supply with Ashprington; stand-pipe taps and pumps are doomed by progress. The then supply to the village was owned by Tuckenhay Paper Mill. Included in this group are Mrs Basten and Mrs Cox. Notice the pinafores of the two women on the left. It may be that they are the two actually collecting water and the other two are just observers or have stopped to chat, although there are four water containers.
