Pumping Station

Brunel's Pumping Station (engines were never installed here in Totnes or at Torquay) with original italinate design chimney - taken down prior to WW2. It was 95ft high. Engine room with original Roman tiles. Boiler room and pump room now have slates. Symons cyder name on walls - barrels alongside. March 2008 - atmospheric pumping station designed by I.K.Brunel has been granted Grade ll listed building status by English Heritage. "People Power" wins through. Summer 1847 - Dainton, Totnes & Torquay pumping houses started. 1848 - pumping house at Rattery began but never completed.
