Strathmore

Strathmore, Pomeroy Villas, Bridgetown. WW1 - Totnes V.A.D. Hospital established at Strathmore, Bridgetown, 01.12.1914 and later transferred to Follaton. Strathmore V.A.D.Hospital closed in December 1919. Dr Chapman, the Commandant, Mrs Hartland, the Quartermaster and Miss Tregaskis, Matron. Miss Tregaskis took up duties of Matron at Follaton and a new Matron came to Strathmore. It would not have been possible to have the hospital at Strathmore but for the kindness of Captain Ward. Built 1862 The Totnes Building Co built Mount Dart in Bourton Road and Pomeroy Villas in Bridgetown in the 1860s. These houses valued at £2735 2s 8d in 1879 and were then ready for occupation.
