SWWA 04.12.1979.In the meadow on the far side of the railway, below Copland Lane, there is evidence that a large mill pond formerly existed there, in which water could be stored to work the Malt Mill. The stream that flows through the meadow would be inadequate for this purpose. TT18.10.1979 - 8000 tons of clay and 80 metres long is massive earth dam just completed to stop flooding of Malt Mill Lake at bottom of Barracks Hill by Southern Counties Construction.
