St Thomas More's School, East Allington
Fallapit House was previously the seat of a family of that name whose heiress married Sir Henry Fortescue, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas in Ireland. It became the family seat of the Fortescue family for many generations. A new house was erected near the old one c.1815 and it was substantially remodelled and enlarged in 1849. The building became St Thomas More’s School in 1947, later closed, and is now a residential estate. Fallapit House was listed as Grade II by English Heritage (now Historic England) on 25 March 1991. The detailed listing description includes the following: ‘1810–15 rebuilding of the medieval house, incorporating some C16 and C17 features remodelled and enlarged and enlarged again circa mid and later C20’.
