Narrows 1901

Tom Lampen on cart in Narrows, 1901. He lived in North Street and was the town porter (carrier) and went around the town beating carpets. 1890 - Railway Carrier - T.Lampen, agent. In 1850 Robert Lampen and Thomas Lampen were basket makers in Fore Street.Thomas Lampen was born around 1833 to Eli Lampen. On the 1901 census Eli is listed as a general dealer and porter on his own account and Thomas, who was 18 at the time, as a labourer and porter. At this time Thomas is living with his father in Pleases Passage. By 1911 he is living with his older sister, Emily, at 8 North Street. 1906 - Richard Higham, dairyman, 83 High Street. 1906 - Mrs Mary Ann Day, Dining Rooms, 74 High Street.
