Rescued WW1 tank at Torcross/Slapton, 1989. American Sherman tank stands alogside the car park, Torcross, as a permanent reminder of all soldiers and sailors lost during Exercise Tiger on 28.04.1944. German E-boats stumbled on to the exercise in the waters of Slapton Sands, and two landing craft full of troops was sunk leaving about 700 men dead. Tank placed in position in 1984.
