Charles Babbage

Charles Babbage born 1791 and died 18th October 1871, age 79. He belonged to a well known and respected Totnes family, his grandfather being Mayor of Totnes in 1754. Although born in London he spent a great deal of his early schooldays in Totnes at the Grammar School and in 1810 obtained a place at Trinity College, Cambridge. He wrote more than 80 books. Invented a calculating machine. FRS 1816 and Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge 1828-1839.
