To the east of the Guildhall stood the Grammar School made up of domestic buildings of the Priory. Rebuilt as a two-storey building 30ft x 18ft in 1630 remained as Grammar School until it moved to the Mansion in Fore Street in 1887. This building was replaced by an "ugly" police station.
