27 Fore Street 1927

The Post Office moved from 1 Fore Street to 27 Fore Street (seen here). Mr W.J. Rymes looking out of a window above the Main Post Office at 27 Fore Street which had a walled garden. The postmaster lived above the premises. Next door to this No.'s 23 & 25 were made into the Post Office which opened in 1928. Number 27 was bought by Joe Tapley to be turned into a cinema. 1890 - Surgeon Major Raby Living at 27 Fore Street (surgeon and medical officer for Totnes Union) (TT 17.08.1889 It has been decided to remove the Post Office from the junction of Fore Street and Mill Lane to the premises now occupied by Dr Raby, having been purchased by Mr T. Heath the postmaster, for that purpose)
