Ernest James Oxenham, of Huntsham and Tigley

Ernest James Oxenham was born in Huntsham, near Tiverton, in 1877, the son of William, a farmer, and Sarah Ann (shown in image JPN 0051). In 1907, he married Grace Stanning of Dartington. He is recorded as a farmer at Tigley in the 1911 Census, living with Grace, her widowed mother and two servants. The 1911 Census records that, by that date, no children had been born to the marriage. In 1921, he and Grace are at West Week Farm, Chulmleigh, with two children, Richard and Alice. He subsequently emigrated to South Africa without his family. In 1939, Grace is recorded at 3 Albert Place, Totnes, with her daughter Alice, but although Grace is described as married, her husband does not appear on the record.
