Eastgate fire 1990

Eastgate fire 1990 DPB2 The East Gate bell was gutted in the fire in 1990. Town Council faced bill of over £2000 to buy a second hand one. Donation came from Kingston Polytechnic in London saying a bell at the college was in the process of being restored by students as part of a project. The bell was made a gift to the town in return for acknowledgment of a plaque bearing the college's name.
