Crichel, Totnes

Dr. Walter Chapman O.B.E., M.B.,B.Ch., lived in Crichel (stepfather to Mary, mother of Jane) He was a physician and surgeon, medical officer & public vaccinator to Berry Pomeroy. Crichel had a room to the right of the front door where medicines and prescriptions were left ready for collection. A large dining room led onto a paved terrace and tennis court. Dr John Carey Leland Hains (who had a practice in Totnes/Bridgetown and then at Crichel) married Ivy Mary Gwendoline Charles (nee Northington) at her home, the parish church of Long Crichel, Dorset, on 30 April 1894.
